The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, commonly known as the United Kingdom, or UK, is a country located off the north­western coast of Europe. The United Kingdom includes the island of Great Britain, the north­eastern part of the island of Ireland, and many smaller islandsThe United Kingdom consists of four countries: England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. Their capitals are London, Edinburgh, Cardiff and Belfast, respectively. The current monarch is Queen Elizabeth II, who has reigned since 1952: she is the longest-serving head of state in the world.    
The United Kingdom's capital is London, with a population of 10 million people: it's the fourth largest city in Europe. Other important cities are Birmingham, Glasgow, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Bath, York, New Castle and Sheffield.
The Church of England, also called Anglican Church, is the official church in England and the Queen is its Supreme Governor. More than 60 per cent of Christians in the UK are Anglican, 13 per cent are Catholic, the rest are other types of Protestants. Many other religions are also practiced, such as Islam, Hinduism and Buddhism.

The flag of the United Kingdom is the Union Flag, also called the Union Jack. It was created in 1606 and updated in 1801:
it represents 
the superimposition of the Flag of England on the Flag of Scotland with Saint Patrick's Flag.
Wales is not represented in the Union Flag. 

The national anthem of the United Kingdom is 
"God Save the Queen" (or the King).
The British currency is the pound sterling, which uses pence instead of cents.
